A distance iron that goes beyond distance irons. The DRIVESTAR TYPE/D is Yamaha's high-launch, draw-biased head ? a large, reassuring shape with a deep tungsten weight that makes getting the ball airborne almost automatic.

Yamaha's 3Point Resonance Technology places a rib on the toe side of the head so that the point of maximum face deflection, the centre of gravity and the actual impact point all sit close together, which is where the efficiency gain comes from. The head is a precision one-piece casting in X37, a new high-strength alloy that allows a sole just 1.1 mm thick; the enlarged flexing area of the sole lifts ball speed sharply on strikes low on the face. A 41 g tungsten weight sits at the rear of the sole for a centre of gravity 8.2 mm deep and 18.6 mm low.

Three clubs: 8-iron, 9-iron and pitching wedge. Lofts 28, 32 and 37 degrees; lie angles 62, 62.25 and 62.5 degrees; lengths 37.5, 37 and 36.5 inches. Fitted with the Fujikura-made SPEEDER NX for Yamaha graphite shaft in SR flex (50-53 g across the three clubs, mid kick point) and the Golf Pride grip (40 g, M60 size, with backline). Conforms to the R and A / USGA COR rule. No head covers are supplied with irons.
